TABETOMO East Village
On December 1, 2018, Chef Kubo and his partners opened TabeTomo to the public—New York City’s first ever restaurant focused on the traditional Japanese noodle called ‘tsukemen’. Located in the heart of Manhattan’s East Village, on the busy cross streets of St. Marks and Avenue A, TabeTomo caters to an eclectic crowd, ranging from native connoisseurs of Japanese noodles to the first-time curious customer who had heard of tsukemen and TabeTomo through the press.
Named after its founder Chef Tomo, TabeTomo (pronounced ‘ta-beh-to-mo’) translates from Japanese to “eating buddy.” The name is meant to be representative of the inclusive and fun culture within the restaurant’s four walls. Customers will often meet Chef Tomo, who personally steps out of the kitchen to ensure that customers’ experiences has been nothing less of his expectations. It is also not uncommon for Chef Tomo to personally treat customers to a glass of sake on the house to express his gratitude for customers’ patronage.
